This week has completely gotten away from me. We had our first Brownie meeting, some shopping, a school fundraiser at the pizza joint and various other time-wasters.
I did manage some weekend sewing last Sunday. Eliot's new teacher requested some special "birthday" napkins that they could use when the pass out the birthday cake. I mentioned this to my mom, who said she had *just* the right fabric.
Snip snip here, sew sew there and voila! 30 6"x6" birthday napkins.
The seersucker print is rather thin, so I backed them with some lightweight broadcloth in four colors. But of course, I couldn't stop there.... I had scraps begging to be used.
So a little more sewing time and I had a reversible place mat for the birthday child. Pink for the girls:
and blue for the boys:
Conveniently, this was one of Kelli & Finny's Craft::Along project for August. {Another project is chocolate/ginger spa cookies - I'm thinkin' I'll make those on Saturday}. This project was amazingly fast because I had a helper. I cut, Aidin matched up the print and solids with the right sides together. I sewed and she turned them inside out, and did a remarkable job on poking the corners out. Tag team sewing! I like it!
Now I think we need a set for us.
Tim's band, The WiseAcres, are playing at the Downtown Lawrence Farmers' Market in the morning. They'll be on the west side and Prairie Acre will be on the east by the picnic tables. This weekend is also the state Pickin' and Fiddlin' championships and the Busker Fest, all in our quaint downtown. Add to that a night at the lake and my niece's birthday party and you know what we'll be doing this weekend. I'm hoping for some relaxation by the campfire.
Cheers! ~L
