Did you know that Saturday was National Mead Day? Yeah, neither did I until we arrived at the home of our wonderful friends Paul and Kim to celebrate.
Paul and Tim have been like brothers since high school. They traded best man duties in our weddings (unfortunataly for Paul & Kim's wedding, Tim was sporting orange hair, but that's another story). They are fun. They have four fun kids. We need to see them far more often.
For several years they have been doing a bit of home brewing. Beer, ale, and now Kim has branched into mead. I can honestly say I'd never tried mead. Let me tell you, it was tasty. And sweet. And potent. So the kids played, we talked and sipped mead. And then we got busy in the kitchen making more mead. (Okay, we really just watched Kim make mead.)
Mead is made out of honey. I had no idea. This batch will be ready in 6-12 months.
And don't think the kids were left out entirely. No, we didn't give them Mead. They got popsicles. And what more could a kid want on a hot, steamy summer afternoon?
And what could be more fun for us than to enjoy the company of good friends and good drink? A great Saturday which must be repeated. When will the next batch be ready, Kim?
Cheers, indeed!
