One of the things very much on our minds during the past several months has been health, primarily that of Tim's mom, Becky.
On August 23rd she had heart valve replacement surgery. Her aortic valve was the worst that the surgeon had ever seen. They also replaced part of her ascending aorta which had a huge aneurysm. She was very nervous about the surgery beforehand, so nervous that she called her Dad and brother in for moral support.
We certainly enjoyed all the Great-Grandpa hugs. And there was a lot of cousin time in the ICU waiting room.
She came through surgery beautifully. Her recovery was going splendidly.
And then she fell.
And broke her upper arm.
And things went downhill.
We made a lot of trips to KU Med in Kansas City. On top of the heart recovery, now she needed shoulder replacement.
To make a long story short, my mother-in-law is still in a rehab hospital. The heart is great. The shoulder is healing. Building up her strength and endurance is a slow business. The rehab hospital staff is thrilled with her progress.
We are just looking forward to having her home. Soon. We hope.
